Temporary Closure of Section of Friedman Lane for Storm Pipe Replacement

Date of Release:
March 31, 2025

Updated (March 31, 2025)

Due to the forecast of heavy rain this week, the start date for the closure of Friedman Lane is postponed until Monday, April 7.

###

Beginning Wednesday, April 2, Monday, April 7 both lanes of Friedman Lane will be closed to traffic for the replacement of a deteriorated storm pipe that runs parallel to west side of the roadway. Contractors working for the City of Paducah, Jim Smith Contracting and Harper Construction, will replace 256 linear feet of pipe with a 48-inch diameter concrete pipe. The work also involves the reconstruction of three concrete structures. The work is expected to take approximately ten days to complete.

The closure of Friedman Lane begins at the intersection with U.S. 60/Hinkleville Road/Park Avenue and ends at Paducah Fire Station #3 (1421 Friedman Lane). During this project, no traffic will be permitted to turn onto Friedman Lane from U.S. 60. Therefore, turning lanes on U.S. 60 will be blocked to traffic. Message boards will be in place to notify motorists that Friedman Lane is closed. Motorists who travel Friedman Lane towards U.S. 60 will need to find an alternate route. There will be signs in place to inform the public that no through traffic is permitted.

Crews will begin mobilizing on Monday, March 31; however, the lane closures will not be in effect until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, Monday, April 7.

This closure of Friedman Lane does not affect access to businesses along U.S. 60. All businesses have alternate driveways for access.

During the closure, crews from Fire Station #3 will respond to calls by taking alternate routes. There will be a brief time during the project when contractors replace the section of pipe adjacent to the station's driveway that will require Station #3's crews to relocate to Fire Station #5 located at 1714 Broadway and conduct their responses from that station.

Please use caution, watch for the work crews, and respect the traffic control devices.

Friedman Lane temporary closure delayed until April 7
