The community is invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Southside Community Gardens on Saturday, April 26 at 2 p.m. The gardens are located at 1227 Tennessee Street near the intersection of South 13th and Tennessee Street.
At the 2024 Strategic Planning session for the Paducah Board of Commissioners, City Commissioner Raynarldo Henderson initiated a conversation about adding community gardens to Paducah’s Southside. The goal of the Southside Community Gardens Project is to help alleviate food insecurities by providing fresh produce to residents.
The Southside Community Gardens which will include ten raised garden beds are located on city-owned vacant lots in the Walter Jetton Neighborhood. Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital is providing a generous $2500 sponsorship toward the construction of the gardens.
Paducah’s Parks & Recreation Department is providing fencing and general maintenance for the gardens while a large group of volunteers, many from various Southside faith-based organizations, will be organizing the volunteer team who will maintain the garden beds and develop the process of distributing the food to residents.
